In addition to The Vancouver Sun Run, the next event we’ll be participating in as part of our Together Movement is The Cardiac Health Foundation Walk of Life 2014 on May 25th, 2014. Like the Sun Run, the Walk of Life will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year!

You may have heard of the Walk of Life on our Facebook page, where we have been posting “UP Pulse Heart Health Tips” leading up to the event in May. We wanted to tell you a bit more about the Walk of Life, so here are some details. First, anyone can participate, because the Walk of Life is comprised of six events! Be a part of the Walk of Life by participating in either a 3k or 5k walk, a 1k “family friendly stroll” that is also ideal for those with strollers or wheelchairs, a 5-or-10k race or, if you won’t be walking or running, a dance-a-thon. You will also have a party or two to look forward to! In addition to the the dance-a-thon for kids and families, there will be an After Party for all participants offering healthy and delicious food!

You can find out more about the Walk of Life here, from the Cardiac Health Foundation’s website. We’re so excited to participate in the Walk of Life and we hope you will join us too — let us know how you plan to participate on our Facebook page!

Going downhill

For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
