With the Christmas season fast approaching, and as you start to contemplate what you would like to give your loved one, please consider the benefit of healthy gift giving. Instead of getting your friends and family gift cards to their favorite store or restaurants, instead consider giving them something they can use throughout their life. Healthy gift giving involves giving someone something that can help to better their wellbeing and overall health. With Urban Poling you not only give the gift of physical activity but for some you are giving the gift of stability and confidence when walking.
Urban Poling is not only a great way of staying active or providing stability and confidence when walking… It is a way of interacting with your community and staying connected with those around you. On our Urban Poling website, under our Getting Started tab, you can find a class near you and join a group of likeminded people sharing their love of being active. Lead by individuals who are passionate about what they do and care about the group of people that they. To them the class is about more than just walking… it about walking your way to better health. Getting the poles is only half the battle…now it’s time to learn how to use them and learn about all the ways you can use them! Give your loved ones a gift that can help them walk their way to better health.
For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
