Get Outside with Urban Poling and Activate Your Walk

Virtual Friday: We are excited to announce that our co-director Mandy Shintani will be presenting at the upcoming Virtual Presentation Friday on October 2.

Mandy’s presentation ‘Get Outside with Urban Poling and Activate Your Walk’ will discuss the many benefits of walking poles based on 300 independent studies. Walking with poles is easy, fun, accessible and the perfect way to exercise safely now, with gyms and recreation centers closed, and in the future. Mandy will describe how walking poles improve both physical and mental health but also provide an added measure of safety for those with balance and stability issues. Since this activity imitates the natural rhythm of walking, it also lends itself to those with dementia. This session will be of interest to older adults, caregivers and senior living staff.

Mandy is an extremely accomplished occupational therapist of over 30 years and is a gerontologist. She has spoken at numerous international conferences on Nordic walking/Urban Poling for rehabilitation and fitness.

Additionally, 5,500+ therapists and wellness professionals in Canada, Australia, UK, Ireland and recently in the USA have completed the courses she has developed for fitness and rehabilitation. She has also been featured numerous times in national media and was a finalist in the prestigious YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Innovation.

This presentation will be extremely interesting and informative! Please submit your RSVP to Micah Hunt at mhunt@ggrva.com
