Dr. Jack Taunton was a trailblazer in sports medicine, a passionate advocate for active living, and a true inspiration in the world of health and fitness. As a co-founder of the Vancouver Marathon and a former Chief Medical Officer for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, his influence extended far beyond the field of medicine—he championed movement as a key to lifelong wellness.
Throughout his career, Dr. Taunton dedicated himself to injury prevention and rehabilitation, helping countless athletes and individuals maintain mobility and independence. He was an avid supporter of promoting accessible fitness solutions and staunch promoter and user of our Activator poles. Our specially designed walking poles promote balance, stability, and improved posture, making them a powerful tool for rehabilitation and fall prevention—areas Dr. Taunton strongly supported.
Even after suffering a stroke in 2021, Dr. Taunton remained a powerful advocate for physical activity, demonstrating the resilience and determination that defined his life. His legacy continues to inspire medical professionals, athletes, and anyone seeking to improve their health through movement. His legacy lives on, empowering people of all ages and abilities to stay active and engaged in their communities. His lifetime achievements received the ultimate recognition last year through his appointment to the Order of Canada just last year- a tribute to those who have brought honour to the country.
Although he passed away last fall, Dr. Taunton’s impact on sports medicine and rehabilitation lives on. His life was a testament to the power of movement and the pursuit of a healthier, more active world. We celebrate his life and share his commitment to improving mobility for all ages one healthy step at a time!
