September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
Every year on September 21st, the world celebrates World Alzheimer’s Day and comes together to promote Alzheimer’s awareness. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and it’s estimated that 55 million people worldwide are living with the disease, most of them 65 or older. One in five women and one in ten men are at risk of developing Alzheimer’s. The disease affects not only memory, but everyday living skills too and greatly impacts the patient and supporting family members. Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, there are treatments that can help slow or delay its progression and many services and support programs available for patients and caregivers.
