Michael J. Fox: Turning Adversity into Advocacy

Michael J. Fox has inspired millions—not just through his iconic performances in Back to the Future and Family Ties, but through his unwavering fight against Parkinson’s disease. His journey from Hollywood stardom to global advocacy is a powerful story of resilience, determination, and hope.

At just 29 years old, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological disorder. The news was devastating, but instead of letting the disease define him, he chose to take action. In 2000, he established The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF), now the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s research. The foundation has invested over $1.75 billion into research, driving advancements in treatments and the pursuit of a cure.

Despite the challenges of living with Parkinson’s, Michael J. Fox remains an advocate for optimism and perseverance. His memoirs, public appearances, and foundation’s work continue to inspire those facing adversity. Through his efforts, he has not only changed the conversation around Parkinson’s but also given hope to millions worldwide.

This year, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is the highest honour granted to a civilian in the United States. The award recognizes those who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values or security of their country, world peace or other significant societal, public or private endeavours.

We are proud to be partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation whose exercise guidelines support the definite correlation between exercise and its beneficial impact on the management of Parkinson’s disease. We are delighted that our Activator poles are helping to improve mobility and quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s one small step at a time. Together, we share an unwavering commitment to making a difference!
