John Fenton – 2015 Walk of Fame Winner
January 19, 2016 | By Urban Poling
Last year, we featured a walk of fame winner each month through our blog and social media who was nominated by one of our instructors, team members, or customers. We had numerous submissions each month so the decisions were not always easy, and all of our Walk of Famers deserve to be commended for their amazing experiences with our poles. Thanks and congratulations to all of you!
As 2015 has come to a close we wanted to select one over-arching Walk of Famer to celebrate the incredible year that we had. After reviewing all the candidates, one stood out in particular, John Fenton. John was introduced to us by Jaqueline Murdoch, one of our terrific instructors in the Etobicoke area. Last year, John at the age of 82, began using our ACTIVATOR poles through the help of Jackie, after going through some health issues which were impeding his balance and ability to walk any great distance. Through hard work and unbelievable determination John began walking with more confidence using his poles, and walked further with each passing week. He trained towards completing a 10Km Walk in support of the Coldest Night of The Year and the Yonge Street Mission. John’s team of Nordic Kids was the only team to complete the 10Km walk of all the walkers that participated in the Toronto area, and was also recognized as one of the top fundraising teams at approximately $18,000. Read the full story.
This year, at the age of 83, John’s goal is to raise $25,000 for the Yonge Street Mission in the Coldest Night of the Year Walk taking place Saturday February 20th in Toronto. We are looking to support John in his fundraising efforts and are also encouraging fellow Urban Polers to join him and his team of Nordic Kids in completing another 10Km walk towards this phenomenal cause. Make this walk part of your #GetFit4U Challenge and train over the next few weeks to be able to complete the 10Km with us!
Congratulations to you John for being our overall Walk of Fame winner for 2015! Thanks for continuing to inspire us all, you are an incredible person.

When walking on snow covered surfaces, remove the rubber tips to expose the carbide tip which will provide better traction. Add snow baskets to prevent the poles from sinking deep into the snow.
