The Vancouver Sun Run
As our head office is in Vancouver we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Vancouver Sun Run for many years and have provided the instructor training for the the Nordic Walking In Training Clinics.
A little bit about the Sun Run: The primary goals of The Vancouver Sun Run are the promotion of health, fitness, and a sense of community. When the race began in 1985, just 3,200 participants walked or ran on the streets of downtown Vancouver. Each year the race grew, attracting new people to what soon became a Vancouver tradition of fun and fitness. In 2014, the number of registrants was an incredible 45,183. The Vancouver Sun Run presented by BlueShore Financial is the largest 10K event in Canada. Introduced as part of The 2014 Vancouver Sun Run presented by BlueShore Financial, were even more ways to make a difference. Each registrant had the opportunity to create a personal pledge page for one of The Vancouver Sun Run’s charitable partners and to fund raise through participation in The Vancouver Sun Run. We are proud to announce that for 2015 the charitable partners are:
- BC Children’s Hospital
- BC SPCA
- Heart and Stroke Foundation
- BC Women’s Hospital + Health Foundation
- Peter AIDS Foundation
- Ronald McDonald House British Columbia
Good luck to all the Sun Run participants next Sunday, April 19, 2015.
The World Partnership Walk
This event was brought to our attention by one of our instructors in the Etobicoke area, Jaqueline Murdoch. Jackie has participated in this walk for the past decade and is an incredible advocate of this cause. Jackie will lead our team in this event and we are lucky to have such a passionate leader at that!
This is Canada’s largest annual event raising money and awareness to End Global Poverty.
Throughout the Walk’s 31 year history, our Ambassadors, Volunteers, Sponsors and Donors continue to be a source of inspiration in their dedication to End Global Poverty. 100% of donations made to the World Partnership Walk go directly to fund Aga Khan Foundation Canada international development projects.
Step Forward with us on May 24th 2015 in Toronto! When you walk, you join thousands of others who believe that change is possible.
The Walk Of Life
Urban Poling has partnered with the Cardiac Health Foundation in an effort to support Cardiac Rehab in Canada and to promote Urban Poling as a viable option in the prevention, management and rehabilitation of CVD. The Walk Of Life is also an important one for Co-Director of Urban Poling, Diana Oliver. When Diana had her second child she nearly had a heart attack. This event (in addition to other complications) took several years to recover from and Diana relied on Urban Poling to help her through this. For this reason, Diana is very proud to be supporting this amazing organization and is passionate to expand the awareness of the many benefits of Urban Poling for cardiac rehab in particular.
The Cardiac Health Foundation Of Canada’s WALK OF LIFE will be taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Ontario Science Centre and ET Seton Park (Sunnybrook Parklands) in Toronto, Ontario. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Foundation. Proceeds are for ‘Prevention, Education and Cardiac Rehabilitation’ and fundraising partnerships are with Cardiac Kids (Sick Kids Hospital); Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance; Cardiac Rehab Centres across Canada; Mikey Network; and University Of Toronto
