Nordic walking after Stroke
This very interesting article reviews the first study on the long term beneficial effects of using Nordic walking (treadmill) to improve balance, gait and ADL for hemiplegic participants (Kang et al. 2016). Find out why the authors of this review, Shintani & De Nino are excited by the results of this new study but suggest future studies focus on regular Nordic walking rather than on a treadmill for stroke participants. Hopefully this study will also provide a greater understanding of the benefit of using Nordic walking poles over traditional devices like canes and walkers when appropriate.
