Nordic-Walk Your Way to Weight Loss  ~by Cheryl Embrett

We thought you’d be interested in this feature article, “Nordic-Walk Your Way to Weight Loss,”  just published in Canadian Living magazine. It’s an inspiring first-person story from an Urban Poling class participant and former marathon runner who has fallen in love with poling.

“After four months of walking three or four times a week in all kinds of weather, I’ve lost 10 pounds, my arms are more toned, and I feel re-energized,” says the author Cheryl Embrett.

After one session of walking, I’m still in a daze about how I managed to walk for an hour. Fifteen minutes is my maximum before my hips give out, and the balls of my feet are burning, and I have to sit down. This is even with my nikes with orthotic inserts in them. And yet I made it on the walk for 45 minutes to and hour before resting. How is this possible?. I can only think that the poles allow for compensatory systems to take the load off my hips and the balls of my feet. Whatever, I plan to keep up this regimen, since I’ve been warned that walking cannot be replaced by any other sport.
