Urban Poling – Train for a 5K or 10K Event, Level 2
Training for a 5K or 10K event has become a popular goal for individuals who want to get involved in community fundraising while reaching for a weight loss or fitness goal. It’s also an excellent way to motivate your clients to come back to your class after they’ve learned the basic Urban Poling technique.
This course is filled with tips on how to run an effective and safe program to gradually build clients’ endurance to prepare them to comfortably finish a 5K or 10K event. 8 out of 10 participants rated this course “extremely helpful”.
Creator: Trish Hunt is an experienced Vancouver Sun Run 10 km training clinic coordinator and instructor. The Vancouver Sun Run is the second largest 10K event in the world. Urban Poling is the official Nordic walking training centre for the Sun Run In-Training Clinics.

For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
